ABOUT MICHAEL STEER
In 1991 Michael began his career in the Industrial Combustion Industry starting as an apprentice electrician. This involved the design, installation and commissioning of management and fuel delivery systems for medium to large industrial combustion plants around Australia. By the end, he was awarded the NECA Apprentice of the Year and was also recognised for his Industrial Automation studies.
In 1994 he obtained an Industrial Gas License and in 2005 gained TUV Functional Safety Engineer accreditation. Michael has a Graduate Certificate in Business Administration gained while studying for his MBA.
Michael was introduced to the Events Industry in 1999 when he was asked to design, supply and commission the fuel delivery and burner control system for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Cauldron*. He went on to operate the Cauldron for the rehearsals and the Opening Ceremony.
Since then Michael has been involved in the following commissions:
- The 2001 Olympic Cauldron Relocation at Overflow Park, Sydney*
- The 2004 Athens Olympic Opening Ceremony "Rings of Fire" effect and Olympic Cauldron*
- The 2006 Doha Asian Games Cauldron and Sports Tower Flame**
- The 2007 Rio Pan American Games Cauldron in Rio de Janerio**
- The 2008 Hariri Memorial Flame in Beirut, Lebanon**
- The 2008 Hong Kong Olympic Equestrian Venue Cauldron**
- The 2009 Devine Show Home architectural flames
- In 2009 Live Element supplied the Flaming Hearts effect for the 2010 Adelaide Festival of Arts Program Launch inside the Adelaide Festival Centre's Dunstan Playhouse and,
- In 2010 reconfigured the control system, fuel train and structure to allow the Hearts to be installed at the Artists Bar for the 2 week duration of the Festival.
Michael's globally unique and holistic experience in Olympic Cauldron and Flame Effect design and implementaion along with his qualifications form the cornerstone of Live Element's capabilities.
